#edchatnz conference meme

I've caved in to the pressure to become part of the #edchatnz conference meme and as it's not quite in line with the overall purpose of my thoughtmongering, I've created my meme in this static page...

Thanks Paula for tagging me in your meme and Terry for doing the same ;)

Also if you don't know what the heck a meme is go here - I like to think I am doing the "mutate" version...but sadly I'm probably just responding to selective pressures...

1. How did you attend the #Edchatnz Conference? (Face 2 Face, followed online or didn’t)

I flew up on a plane from Wellington, got a rental car and used my GPS to find HPSS.

2. How many others attended from your school or organisation?

I'm not sure! Maybe ten??

3. How many #Edchatnz challenges did you complete?

- helped Nicola Bew sign up for Twitter

- retweeted tons of stuff
- shared stuff I was challenged by (mostly around design thinking and SOLO)
- I chatted to primary, secondary, tertiary, outside providers, kids, BOT member
- I was in some Grelfies
- I played with tech I haven't played with before - robot cars, brainwave machine
- I pulled an impromptu dance move in front of a crowd - on the stage before the political debate (am most proud of this one)

4. Who are 3 people that you connected with and what did you learn from them?

1: Di Cavallo - I learned heaps about design thinking in her session and had to share with her some of my work that I do with clusters that aligns with design thinking - very cool!
Empathise, Define, Ideate, prototype, test
Discovery, interpretation, ideation, experimentation, evolution
Looking for commonality (resonance) and dissonance. Scanning and focusing parts of inquiry spirals

2: Terry Beech - Was great to meet Terry as I enjoy connecting with him on Twitter but we didn't get much time together at the conference. I enjoyed his design workshop - fascinating! Especially that we are all designers - either form or function - I am function!

3: Nicola Bew - It was nice to bump into Nicola again here. I first met her at a LCN day and I like her inquisitive nature and direct honesty. We had lots of good chats at this conference and I'm glad she's on Twitter now! She's all arty and stuff and really likes kids (funnily enough).

5. What session are you gutted that you missed?

The school tours would have been cool. Also I would have liked to spend more time in classrooms watching teachers and kids in action - loved the time I spent in Steve and Danielles' class

6. Who is one person that you would like to have taken to Edchatnz and what key thing would they have learned?

I can't name just one person! However, I am thinking of friends who are teachers who are not yet in the world of twitter and aren't connecting beyond their local face to face network. I know how much these types of connections would inspire and energise them but convincing them is hard work!

7. Is there a person you didn’t get to meet/chat with (F2F/online) that you wished you had? Why

There are heaps! I can't name them all but they are all people who I admire and look up to and would love to spend time with one-on-one. I often think that conferences don't suit that type of connection - and even more so if you're more introvert than extrovert because you're not likely to step in and be the first to talk to people to connect with them properly.

8. What is the next book you are going to read and why?

Key Competencies for the Future - I still haven't got it!!! argh!!! Reason - to add to my kete re: future focused education and because I wanna be part of edubookchatnz

9. What is one thing you plan to do to continue the Education Revolution you learnt about at #EdchatNZ?

I'll just continue on my journey - current focus is transformation and future focused education and #edchatnz added to that kete.

10. Will you take a risk and hand your students a blank canvas?

I guess my "students" are the adults that I work with in clusters and schools. I absolutely will take that risk and do. My challenge is to get them to see that a blank canvas from me is better than a bunch of "answers" or "knowledge" from me. I want to facilitate them to create their own knowledge and capability.

I think everyone has been tagged now so I won't tag anyone ;) - how about this - if you haven't been tagged and wish you were - you're It!!

Pic 1: Terry Beech - Form and Function - which are you?

Pic 2: Impromptu dance move in front of a crowd - Yuss!
